VE Day 1945 Clifton Residents
Residents of Clifton dress up as Mummers to celebrate Victory in Europe Day on 8 March 1945. The tradition of mumming in Clifton dates a long way back and attitudes to 'black-face' were different in the past. Mary Vane-Turner in Ch.8 of 'The Story of Deddington' has an extensive description of this following a description of the tradition of tilting at the quintain on the green in Deddington.
