Wassailing Feb 2026

The very ancient ceremony of 'Wassailing' derives from the old Norse phrase 'ves heill' (be in good health) and marks the end of winter and encouraging new growth in the orchard. This involves the wearing of greenery, singing of songs, pouring libation of cider - mulled or otherwise - onto the saplings (and some into the wassailers!) together with the banging of pots and pans to make a 'hullabaloo'.

Like the preceding video of the creation of the community orchard, the video was created by Emma Spellman and the ceremony organised by Tammy Marrett
